Questions and Answers for the Reaching Up to God our Creator Vacation Bible School (VBS)
What will the daily schedule look like? The days will start with a 15 minute meeting with the group leaders and checking in. This is followed by a half hour of worship and teaching time including singing, prayer and reading stories. We will then respond with a craft time. Later there will be a trip to a nearby playground, snacks and group games. We will end the day back at the church for a 15 minute closing and blessing time.
How will the children be grouped? The children will be put into groups based on the ages so that the teaching and response times can be tailored to the needs of different ages. Other portions of the day, such as the snack time and worship will be done as one large group.
Do I need to send food with my child? No, there will be snacks provided and on the last day of the camp there will be a group lunch for participants, parents and others involved. Please notify us if your child has food allergies ahead of time.
What should my children bring to the VBS? For out time spent outside it may be helpful for you to send a hat along with your child as well as clothing which may be played outside in. For our indoor times, your child may bring a bible if they wish, although it is not necessary.
What should my child leave at home? Any IPods, cell phones or other distracting items should be left at home please.
What is the deadline for registration? It would be greatly appreciated if you could notify us by July 16th if your child will be attending so that we can buy appropriate numbers of supplies.
Is there a cost? No, the church will cover the cost of everything.
Who will be teaching my children? Ruth Preston Schilk, the pastor of Lethbridge Mennonite Church and the summer pastoral intern, Krista Loewen, are planning the lessons and will be aided by youth volunteers.
What are your sources? The VBS is based on the Mennonite Church Canada curriculum called “Reaching Up to God our Creator,” published in 2008. We may also be collaborating with Aboriginal teachers form the Lethbridge area.
How do I register? Call the church at 403-329-8557 or email: office@lethbridge.menonitechurch.ab.ca and let us know the age and names of the children attending. Please include any food allergies we should be aware of.
Lethbridge Mennonite Church offers Sunday school for all ages.
www.come is an invitation to join in Worship, Wonder and Works. It is a
monthly outreach program for the children of the Lethbridge Mennonite Church to age twelve. The goal of www.come is for the children to get to know each other, their church community and the broader Mennonite Church through fun activities. Our monthly activities range from learning experiences (touring the Thrift Store); fundraising events (tile painting and hosting Shrove Tuesday Pancake supper); bridge building within the church community (delivering cupcakes) and having lots of fun (corn maze, camp-in, wave pool).
